Sanae Sunny Kamiya, for some people better known in South Maui as Sunny K, has come a long way from his birthplace in Japan. He has lived in New York City and now resides on Maui. His story is too long to tell here, but if you buy him a couple of beers, he will tell you about his life as a fire fighter in Japan which was disrupted when he saw the movie 'Backdraft' about ten times, and began to dream of being one of New York's heroic fire fighters. Thinking 'Backdraft' was filmed in New York he moved to the big city...later learning that the film was shot in Chicago! Unfortunately his dream of being a New York fire fighter didn't work out due to citizenship issues. Instead, he became an EMT, search and rescue worker. When sipping on a beer in a bar near the firehouse, he saw a TV commercial for Hawaii and realized, "I'm in the wrong place. I should be there." Days later, he was on Maui and funny things began happening around him, leading to interest experiences and stories.
All along, Sunny had been working hard seven days a week for six years, doing one sort of business or another when he discovered that people weren't setting that many fires on Maui in 1995. He wasn't needed by the fire department so the entrepreneurial side of his character came to the forefront, which led to the translation business.

Sunny is also a wedding minister and performs weddings for international couples (Japanese and Americans) and will perform English or Japanese only ceremonies.
